Theresa (Teri) Mullen and her daughters have been working in the impoverished neighborhoods of Southeast Washington, D.C. since 1987 and her deep roots in the community through a program called Kids Konnection. Through the founding of the Kids Konnection’s Sidewalk Sunday School, the she has gained the trust and respect of thousands of kids and their families in the neighborhoods of Wards 7 and 8. However, as the children grew to young adults, it became clear that their needs were changing and not being fully addressed by existing programs.
In response, with the assistance of Kids Konnection she founded The Gatepost in Southeast. Washington, D.C. The popularity of The Gatepost quickly spread throughout the community and she worked with the Board and local leaders to evaluate ways to strengthen The Gatepost’s training programs.
